Amsterdam-based challenger bank bunq has announced that its users planted over 40,000 trees in less than two months. Since the successful launch of the bunq Green Card, a metal card that plants a tree for every €100 spent, bunq users have offset a global reduction of CO2 emissions by 12.3 million kg, which translates into over 13,000 flights from Paris to New York.
This milestone has been made possible through a partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. To celebrate, bunq now enhances bunq Green Card by introducing an extended warranty and purchase protection on all purchases made with the bunq Green Card, enabling bunq users to enjoy carefree shopping.

bunq, founded in 2012, sees itself as the Bank of The Free – a totally independent bank that makes life easy with no branch visits, no queues, and no paperwork. In 2018, the total amount of user deposits doubled, and in 2019 announced expanding to all EU countries, now being available in 30 European markets.
Alongside its green tree-planting activities, bunq also announces an integration with software company Zapier, now allowing entrepreneurs to connect their bunq app to over 1,500 apps, such as Quickbooks, Xero, Gmail, Slack and MailChimp. Additionally, bunq introduces the bunq Payment Sorter, making budgeting so easy you don’t even have to think about it. The Payment Sorter sorts your salary automatically by sending your money instantly to the right sub-accounts as soon as you get paid.
